Acing her marketing career with a large corporate and being the backbone for her two kids, all the while working flexi-time: Meet Franky Aggarwal

Pune-based Management graduate and mother of two children, Franky Aggarwal has had a vast career and experience of over 14 years spanning multiple domains such as banking, telecom, technology, edu-tech and the hygiene and health industry, where she currently works as a marketing consultant. In telecom, Franky worked with two leading companies which saw her grow professionally and earn numerous awards and accolades. The birth of her second child, however, put a break on her career. “Both my parents and in laws stay in different cities, and it was difficult to manage two kids and a full-time job without family support. My son was born with a small kidney ailment so his needs were much more important to me at that time and so I took a break,” Franky says.
 
Franky also took up a one-year diploma in digital marketing, in order to hone her skills further.  
 
However, Franky did not cut herself off completely from her professional life, and after her son turned a year old, she started to dabble in a few projects. “I worked with a few small startups, those who were active in the technology field or edu tech field, but it was not concrete. I just picked the assignments on a word-of-mouth basis, worked for a couple of months and moved on.” In the interim, Franky also took up a one-year diploma in digital marketing, in order to hone her skills further.  
 
As Franky moved on from one small project to the other, she got to know about FlexiBees one day.  “I was really intrigued by the concept they had and that it was run by women who were themselves highly skilled [DN1] professional, working remotely and balancing their careers and personal life. Franky landed a marketing role with a large multinational client in the health and hygiene sector. The fact that the profile was a remote one, which required her to visit the office only two days in a week, has helped her grow in her profile over the past 1.5 years.

Over time, seeing my working style and the value addition I brought in, my responsibilities were increased and my contract was extended for six months. I am handling the entire category now and we are adding new products, handling certain international programmes with the global team, looking to revamp the entire skin care range that we have, working towards increasing revenue in the category and increasing business in this category by almost 20 percent this financial year. I have grown from handling a specific project to an entire category now and have moved on to a more strategic role now.”

This also means that Franky works for a longer duration. “ The work hours have also increased to around 7 hours daily . However, the flexible timings suit me perfectly as I get to be a part of the office atmosphere the days that I go out to work and the rest of the days, I am able to be there for my children in case they need me,” she explains.  
 
As my roles and responsibilities have increased, I am also considered to be an integral part of the team now. I am also copied on information such as the business plans and category information, which were previously not shared with me, as the role was meant to be a short term one. I have a responsibility of achieving my numbers and am backed by my team.
 
This flexibility has enabled Franky to balance her work and personal commitments, something that she would have not been able to do had she been working on a full-time basis.
While Franky attributes the success that the client has had to the entire team, there has been visible growth since she has become a part of the Marketing team . “ Things have become quicker, processes have become more streamlined, the sales team is also getting better support which was not the case earlier,” she explains. Franky has also seen herself being accepted as an important member of the client team now. “Earlier my interactions used to be mainly limited to my manager, apart from specific people in my organization. As my roles and responsibilities have increased, I am also considered to be an integral part of the team now.
