This Mother's Day, hear what Pickle has to say about his 'Bestest Momma', Sayantika Adak

Sayantika Adak, who describes herself as a ‘stay-at-home-full-time-working mom,’ has handled many profiles across industries, but the one she enjoys the most is being the mother of five-year-old Tishaam, aka Pickle. And, while quitting her job was never in the pipeline, the happiness that she derived from being around her tiny bundle of joy, the fact that her husband's job required him to be away for more than half a year and the dearth of good opportunities in the city she lives in, made the decision easier. “My little boy is a restless child who loves to hog my attention. He is also full of questions and in full control of all my buttons!” she says of her child, with pride.

Sayantika calls her motherhood journey truly ‘eye opening.’ “I never knew I could be so good at it. I have developed so much more patience (with so many why’s and no’s, patience is the only way you keep your sanity). I have become good at multitasking - cooking, answering a million questions and working on my laptop at the same time. I have also discovered a whole well of energy.”

My son is equally proud when I dance properly and tells me that I danced beautifully. He is also amazingly receptive of everything I cook or bake and makes it a point to tell his teachers that I bake great cakes

Amidst taking care of Pickle and freelancing, Sayantika has also restarted her dance classes and has taken up the violin. And these achievements are what make little Pickle especially proud of his mother. “He sits in my dance class and gives me pointers. There are times when he even scolds me for missing a step or talking to others! My son is equally proud when I dance properly and tells me that I danced beautifully. He is also amazingly receptive of everything I cook or bake and makes it a point to tell his teachers that I bake great cakes,” she explains.

“You are such a good girl. You help everybody at all times. You are the bestest mumma ever in every world”

Despite his tender age, Pickle has been vocal about his appreciation for his mother. “ On two different occasions, he said that I was a ‘very good girl’ for helping others, which was high praise coming from a five-year-old. The first time was when I was trying to locate the mother of a hurt child and the second was when I was helping one of the IT system users navigate the system I had helped develop. In both cases, I had ended the call by saying that "they should feel free to call me anytime for any help that they might need". Pickle later told me, "You are such a good girl. You help everybody at all times. You are the bestest mumma ever in every world".

My son has been around so many calls of mine, that he even mimics me. He roams around with my laptop bag, trying to get in touch with a "client" who was travelling to "Delhi”.
Pickle understands that his mother has to focus on her work, as well. “My son has been around so many calls of mine, that he even mimics me. He roams around with my laptop bag, trying to get in touch with a "client" who was travelling to "Delhi”.   The fact that he understands and respects my work, is the best part. There have even been a few times when I could not take him to the park because I had work pending, and when I explained to him, all he said was “that's ok, we will go tomorrow. You finish your work”.  There are times he shushes my husband and tells him, mumma is on a call, we can't disturb her now.

It is important for him to see me do stuff, learn new things and take care of myself.

Sayantika also ensures that she spends time talking with Pickle, and believes that gets reflected in his communication skills. “I have spent a lot of time and energy in helping him develop his communication. While his handwriting is probably not the best, his communication skills are definitely worth a mention.” For Sayantika, time management is the key. “I wake up really early so that I can finish household chores, cooking and also pack an hour of yoga before Pickle wakes up. I work mostly when he is sleeping or playing. I also take him with me on my errands, to my dance class, violin class, marathons and at times to my gym too. It is important for him to see me do stuff, learn new things and take care of myself.”
